Wine Gender Bias

Wine, the most popular alcoholic drink among women in the UK, has seen more than double the tax rises over the past decade compared to beer – the most popular alcohol drink among men.

A 39% rise in the duty on wine since 2010 compared with a 16% rise for beer highlights the unfair deal for women; this is further worsened by the standard 20% VAT on alcohol drinks.
As a result, the Wine Drinkers UK campaign has formed, with the aim to reducing the wine duty at the next Budget.
